Catherine Sobredo is a fine art photographer. Her images, Soul Shapes, invoke the inner landscapes of the soul - mystical, ethereal , contemplative, transcendent. Her work represents her belief in creativity as a vehicle for "acknowledging the psyche."
Primarily self-taught, Sobredo’s work evolved from her study of Polaroid image and emulsion transfers, including the impressionistic Polaroid SX-70 manipulations. Creativity was and is the only way home. This is true whether she works with the truly feminine in nudes, portraits, an invocation to the past via historic sites, devotional art, haunting landscapes, digital composites, Photoshop and most recently, sepia toned Holgas. She states: My work leads me to myself, to a resolution of pathos via images. I want my images to be erotic, soulful and beautiful. As an artist, working with beauty brings me joy and abandonment. Realizing and feeling this beauty brings forth pain, yet valuing beauty gives me strength. By cooperating with the psyche’s design, I become a witness through which psyche expresses itself. |
